Association

Association and Network ‘Stammlande der Habsburger’ (Habsburg Ancestral Lands)

The ‘Habsburg Ancestral Lands’ Association is the supporting body for the 12 sites in the canton of Aargau that have strong links to the origins and early history of the Habsburg dynasty.

It showcases the Aargau region’s historical sites dating from the early days (around 1020–1415) of the Habsburgs as cultural tourist attractions. In doing so, it raises their profile both in Aargau and on a national and international scale.

In addition to the Habsburgs’ material heritage in Aargau, the association highlights that the history of the Habsburgs also comprises an intangible heritage: namely, the history of a Swiss noble family passed down orally from generation to generation. It is upon this that the unique legend of the Habsburg dynasty is based.

The ‘Habsburg Homeland’ Association was founded on 23 October 2024 at Habsburg Castle and is supported by the following members: Baden, Bremgarten, Brugg, Muri Abbey, Laufenburg, Rheinfelden, the Museum Aargau with its six sites – Habsburg Castle, Königsfelden Abbey, Hallwyl Castle, Wildegg Castle, Wettingen Abbey and Lenzburg Castle – as well as Aargau Tourism.

They all bear witness to Aargau as the birthplace and ancestral home of this family, which went on to become so influential, setting out from here to make its mark on the world and shaping global history for half a millennium.
